On October 23, 2023, the C.C.C.B. announced Bishop Dowd's appointment as Co-Moderator of the Joint Working Group between the Roman Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches (WCC). We extend to Bishop Dowd our most sincere congratulations for this new appointment.
The present location of the Diocesan Centre is no longer feasible. Ever since the Diocese began leasing at the present location (30 Ste. Anne Road), plans to move were undertaken. The time to vacate the present location has now become necessary.
We are saddened to announce that Mrs. Lucille Durocher, passed away on June 24, 2023. She was the mother of the Most Rev. Paul-André Durocher, Archbishop of Gatineau. Archbishop Durocher was Auxiliary Bishop in the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie from 1997 to 2002.
In August 2023, the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa will be leaving the Diocese of Sault Ste-Marie. Since their arrival in the Sudbury area in 1896, the community has worked in the Diocese of Sault Ste-Marie for 127 years, setting up many pastoral works of charity in the fields of health and education, and so much more.
Sister Frances Gavin (Sister St. Walter) transitioned into God’s heart for eternity on March 27, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Motherhouse, North Bay, Ontario.
The day included faith sharing, prayer, music, confession, Adoration and inspirational talks from our Keynote Speaker Ken Yasinski, who encouraged teenagers to live their God-given purpose in life.
With the support of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), Aid to Church in Need (ACN), Canadian Jesuits International (CJI), Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) Canada, and Development and Peace-Caritas Canada (DPCC) are launching an emergency aid campaign in response to the destructive earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday. They have pledged the total sum of nearly one million Canadian dollars.
