On September 29, 2018 at 2:00 pm was held the dedication of the new Sacré-Coeur Church in Sturgeon Falls. The Most Reverend Marcel Damphousse, Bishop of Sault Ste. Marie, presided over the ceremony. He was accompanied by Father Basil Agré, Pastor of the parish, Father Jean Vézina, Chancellor of the Diocese and four other priests of the region. Many parishioners also took part in the ceremony.
Parishioners are very happy to finally have their new church. Their old church built in 1914 was demolished in 2015 because it posed serious security problems. Since then, parishioners have gathered at the Franco-Cité school for Eucharistic celebrations.
The new church contains several elements recovered during the destruction of the old church: the benches (fully restored), the ambo, the baptismal font, the altar of the Blessed Sacrament, the crosses, and a wooden and ceramic curtain. The bell and the statue of the Sacred Heart will soon be installed on the grounds of the new church. These elements create a link between the past and the present.
May this new church be a place of worship where francophone people of Sturgeon Falls can gather to pray and meet in a spirit of Christian faith and charity.
