Rev. Denis Savignac died yesterday July 6th, 2017 at the hospital in Sturgeon Falls. He has served the people of our Diocese since his ordination on June 12th, 1965. He was known and appreciated for his empathy, his availability and willingness to listen and comfort others. Please remember in your prayers, Father Savignac his family and his friends.
We are saddened to announce that Deacon Joseph Fox from M'Chigeeng (West Bay) on Manitoulin Island died on June 27, 2017. Joseph was one of the first indigenous people to be ordained as a permanent Deacon in our Diocese. We offer our most sincere condolences to his wife Grace as well as to their family.
Bishop Damphousse will be presiding a Mass for Canada Day on Friday June 30th at the Grotto in Sudbury. During this bilingual celebration, the Bishop will consecrate our country on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Confederation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Lady of Canada. Mass is at 7 pm, preceded by the rosary at 6:30 pm. We are grateful to the Daughters of Isabella who are sponsoring the event.
The General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops has announced a new website in preparation for the Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops which will take place during October 2018 on the theme "Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment". The site is designed to promote the broad, interactive participation of young people around the world in preparation for the Synod, and includes an online questionnaire to which they are invited to respond and submit to the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops by 30 November 2017. The website can be accessed in a number of languages and includes video archives and documents for the preparation of the Synod. (Once on the link go down the page to choose a language).
